Ingredients:

  • 1.25 lbs (567g) ground chicken
  • 1 medium apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji preferred), peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • 4 oz (113g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup (30g) panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 burger buns of your choice
  • Optional Toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, mayonnaise, apple chutney

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine the ground chicken, diced apple, shredded cheddar, panko breadcrumbs, Dijon mustard, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Be careful not to overmix.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Flatten slightly and make a small indentation in the center of each patty.
  3. Cover the patties with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Heat a griddle pan or skillet over medium heat. Lightly grease the pan. Cook the patties for 7-9 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  5. While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns.
  6. Place each cooked burger on a bun and top with your desired toppings. Serve immediately.
