Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped (approx. 1 cup or 150g)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 ounce/425g) can great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce/425g) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce/425g) can butter beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce/425g) can pork and beans, undrained
  • 1 cup (240ml) ketchup
  • ½ cup (120ml) packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) yellow mustard
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) salt
  • ¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, brown the ground beef and bacon. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. In the same skillet, combine all the beans (great Northern, kidney, butter, and pork and beans), ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. OR Transfer the mixture to a Dutch oven. Cover and bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) for 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve hot.
