Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped (approx. 1 cup or 150g)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can butter beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15 ounce/425g) can pork and beans, undrained
- 1 cup (240ml) ketchup
- ½ cup (120ml) packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) yellow mustard
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) salt
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper
Instructions:
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, brown the ground beef and bacon. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- In the same skillet, combine all the beans (great Northern, kidney, butter, and pork and beans), ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. OR Transfer the mixture to a Dutch oven. Cover and bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) for 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve hot.
