Ingredients:
- 4 medium-sized Granny Smith apples (about 800 g)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (100 g)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (1 g)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (15 g)
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (190 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (2 g)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed (115 g)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 g)
- 1 large egg yolk
- 3-4 tablespoons cold water (45–60 ml)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sugar, egg yolk, and cold water until a dough forms. Roll out the dough and fit it into the pie dish. Chill for 10 minutes.
- Core and slice the apples into thin wedges. Toss apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
- Fill the chilled crust with the apple mixture, dotting with butter. Optionally sprinkle a bit more cinnamon on top for added flavor.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
