Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons (15g) all-purpose flour
- 2 cups (480ml) beef or chicken stock (homemade or low-sodium)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon (5g) salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon (2g) ground black pepper
- Optional: Fresh herbs (like thyme or rosemary) for added flavour
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until frothy.
- Add the flour, whisking continuously for about 2 minutes until it turns a light golden color (this is your roux).
- Gradually pour in the stock while whisking to prevent lumps from forming.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, cooking until the gravy thickens (about 10-15 minutes). Optional: Add fresh herbs for extra flavor.
- If gravy is too thick, whisk in a bit more stock or water until the desired consistency is reached.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then ladle over your favourite dish.
