Ingredients:
- 6 large apples (about 2 pounds / 900g), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon (8g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup (90g) old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/3 cup (65g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup (43g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the baking dish lightly with butter.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly.
- In a large bowl, toss apple slices with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the melted butter over the oat mixture and stir until clumpy and crumbly, resembling coarse crumbs.
- Evenly spread the crisp topping over the apple layer.
- Bake uncovered for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and apples are bubbling around the edges.
- Allow the crisp to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving to let juices thicken slightly.
- Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or custard.
