Ingredients:

  • 6 large apples (about 2 pounds / 900g), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (8g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup (90g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup (65g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup (43g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the baking dish lightly with butter.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly.
  3. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In another bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Pour the melted butter over the oat mixture and stir until clumpy and crumbly, resembling coarse crumbs.
  7. Evenly spread the crisp topping over the apple layer.
  8. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and apples are bubbling around the edges.
  9. Allow the crisp to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving to let juices thicken slightly.
  10. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or custard.
