Ingredients:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional for added flavor)
- Extra granulated sugar for sprinkling
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until combined.
- Form the dough into a disc and wrap in plastic wrap; chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough to about ½ inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Cut into desired shapes using a cookie cutter or knife, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle a little granulated sugar over the tops of the cookies.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
