Ingredients:

  • 14 oz (400 g) extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (or neutral oil)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • ½ teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or chili sauce (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Drain tofu and press it between paper towels or use a tofu press for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut pressed tofu into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes. In a bowl, toss tofu cubes with soy sauce and salt.
  3. Sprinkle cornstarch over tofu cubes and toss gently until evenly coated to ensure crispiness.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Lightly brush or spray the air fryer basket with oil. Place tofu cubes in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding. Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking or turning cubes halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  6. While tofu cooks, whisk soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and sriracha (if using) in a small bowl.
  7. Once cooked, transfer tofu to a bowl and gently toss with the soy glaze until coated evenly.
  8. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds if desired and serve hot as a snack, salad topping, or main dish component.
