Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) fresh strawberries
- 8 ounces (225g) high-quality semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable shortening or coconut oil
- Sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, cocoa powder, sea salt flakes (optional)
Instructions:
- Gently wash and thoroughly dry the strawberries. Remove the stems, leaving a small portion attached for easy dipping. Place them on a clean paper towel-lined tray.
- Using a double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl set over a simmering pot of water), melt the chocolate. Stir frequently until smooth. Add the shortening or coconut oil for extra shine and smoothness, stirring until fully incorporated.
- Holding a strawberry by the stem (or using a toothpick), dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat evenly. Lift the strawberry and gently tap off any excess chocolate.
- Immediately sprinkle with desired toppings (sprinkles, nuts, etc.) before the chocolate sets.
- Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Refrigerate the strawberries for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm and set.
- Remove from the refrigerator about 10 minutes before serving to allow the chocolate to soften slightly.
