Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) fresh strawberries
  • 8 ounces (225g) high-quality semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable shortening or coconut oil
  • Sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, cocoa powder, sea salt flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Gently wash and thoroughly dry the strawberries. Remove the stems, leaving a small portion attached for easy dipping. Place them on a clean paper towel-lined tray.
  2. Using a double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl set over a simmering pot of water), melt the chocolate. Stir frequently until smooth. Add the shortening or coconut oil for extra shine and smoothness, stirring until fully incorporated.
  3. Holding a strawberry by the stem (or using a toothpick), dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat evenly. Lift the strawberry and gently tap off any excess chocolate.
  4. Immediately sprinkle with desired toppings (sprinkles, nuts, etc.) before the chocolate sets.
  5. Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Refrigerate the strawberries for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm and set.
  7. Remove from the refrigerator about 10 minutes before serving to allow the chocolate to soften slightly.
