Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups (150g) all-purpose flour (US) / plain flour (UK)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) (113g) unsalted butter, softened (US) / unsalted butter, softened (UK)
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar (US) / caster sugar (UK)
  • 1/2 cup (110g) packed light brown sugar (US) / light brown sugar (UK)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (US) / plain chocolate chips (UK)

Instructions:

  1. Spread flour in a thin, even layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the temperature reaches 165°F to kill off bacteria. Let cool completely.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the vanilla extract and salt. Gradually add the milk, mixing until just combined.
  4. Gradually add the cooled, heat-treated flour to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a rubber spatula until evenly distributed.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the dough to firm up.
  7. Scoop and enjoy straight from the bowl!
