Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp (10g) baking soda
  • 1 tsp (6g) salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp (10ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • ⅓ cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp (45ml) whole milk
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your sheet pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving a small overhang on the sides.
  2. Whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in the milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla until the batter is smooth. Finally, stir in the boiling water until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 18-22 minutes until the edges slightly pull away and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  5. While the cake is still warm, melt the butter and whisk in cocoa, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to create the glaze. Pour the glaze over the warm cake.
