Ingredients:
- 4 cups Unsweetened Cranberry Juice (100% juice)
- 3 cups High-Quality Apple Cider (unfiltered)
- 1 cup Fresh Orange Juice
- 1/2 cup Pure Maple Syrup (Grade A or B)
- 4 to 6 dashes Angostura Bitters (optional)
- 1 inch piece Fresh Ginger, sliced thinly (skin on)
- 4 large Cinnamon Sticks
- 5 pieces Whole Star Anise
- 1 cup Fresh Cranberries (for garnish)
- 1 large Orange, thinly sliced (for infusion and garnish)
- 2 litres Premium Ginger Ale or Club Soda (chilled, added last)
- 1 cup Quality Spiced Rum or Bourbon Whiskey (Optional Adult Spirit)
Instructions:
- Combine Liquids: In a large pitcher or the punch bowl, combine the cranberry juice, apple cider, fresh orange juice, maple syrup, and Angostura bitters (if using). Stir well to ensure the maple syrup is fully dissolved.
- Add Aromatics: Gently stir in the thinly sliced ginger, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
- Chill and Infuse: Cover the mixture tightly and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours, or ideally 4 to 6 hours. This resting time is crucial for the spices to properly infuse the liquid.
- Create a Garnish Ice Block (Optional): Fill a shallow container with water and add a layer of fresh cranberries and orange slices. Freeze solid. This large ice block prevents rapid dilution.
- Strain (If necessary): If you prefer a clear punch, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the whole spices before proceeding. (Alternatively, leave the spices in for presentation.)
- Transfer and Add Spirit: Transfer the chilled juice base to the final punch bowl. If making the 'Spirit-Lifted' version, now is the time to stir in the spiced rum or bourbon.
- Add Ice and Garnish: Gently place the large ice block (or standard ice cubes) into the bowl. Add the remaining fresh cranberries and orange slices for a festive floating garnish.
- The Fizz: Just 5 to 10 minutes before serving, slowly pour in the chilled Ginger Ale or Club Soda. Stir gently once or twice—you want to combine it without sacrificing the effervescence.
- Serve: Ladle into chilled glasses or mugs alongside salty, savory snacks.
