Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) Long-grain rice, rinsed (Basmati or Jasmine work well)
  • 6 cups (1.4L) Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) Salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) Milk or cream (any kind – dairy, oat, almond) - Optional Topping
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) Butter or ghee - Optional Topping
  • Honey or Maple Syrup, to taste - Optional Topping
  • Fresh fruit (berries, banana slices, peaches) - Optional Topping
  • Nuts or Seeds (toasted almonds, chia seeds, sesame seeds) - Optional Topping
  • Soy Sauce - Optional Savory Topping
  • Sesame Oil - Optional Savory Topping
  • Fried Egg - Optional Savory Topping
  • Scallions - Optional Savory Topping
  • Chili Oil - Optional Savory Topping

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents stickiness.
  2. Add the rinsed rice and water to the saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until the rice is very soft and the mixture has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in salt. Add toppings, and serve immediately.
