Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (preferably chuck for flavour)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or vegetable oil for sautéing)

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and add ground beef. Cook until browned.
  4. Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato paste until well combined.
  5. Sprinkle in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  6. Add beef broth and stir to combine.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Check seasoning and adjust spices if necessary before serving.
