Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (preferably chuck for flavour)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 can (14 oz / 400 g) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (or vegetable oil for sautéing)
Instructions:
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add diced onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add ground beef. Cook until browned.
- Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato paste until well combined.
- Sprinkle in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Add beef broth and stir to combine.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Check seasoning and adjust spices if necessary before serving.
