Ingredients:

  • TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) Cleaner: 1/2 cup per gallon of warm water
  • Sandpaper: Assorted grits (80, 120, 220 grit)
  • Wood Filler: As needed
  • Painter's Tape: Several rolls
  • Primer: 1-2 quarts, Oil-based or latex suitable for wood
  • Cabinet Veneer or Paint: Sufficient quantity to cover surfaces
  • New Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts: Custom-ordered to fit
  • New Cabinet Hardware: Knobs, pulls, hinges
  • Decorative Moulding (Optional)
  • Touch-Up Paint/Veneer (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Remove doors, drawers, and all hardware. Label everything clearly!
  2. Thoroughly clean cabinet boxes with TSP solution. Rinse well and let dry completely.
  3. Sand all surfaces to be refaced to create a smooth surface for adhesion.
  4. Fill any holes, dents, or imperfections with wood filler. Let dry and sand smooth.
  5. If painting, apply a coat of primer to all surfaces. Let dry completely.
  6. Apply veneer with adhesive or 2-3 coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely.
  7. Attach new hinges to the doors and mount them to the cabinet boxes.
  8. Attach knobs, pulls, and any other hardware to the doors and drawers.
  9. Check alignment, adjust hinges as needed, and touch up any imperfections.
  10. Admire Your Work!
