Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar (unseasoned)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon (12 g) brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (approximately 1 teaspoon)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more, to taste – optional)
  • 1 green onion, thinly sliced (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, water, and brown sugar.
  2. Stir in the grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning to your liking. Add more soy sauce for saltiness, rice vinegar for tang, or brown sugar for sweetness.
  4. If desired, gently warm the sauce in a small saucepan over low heat for 1-2 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together. Do not boil.
  5. Pour the sauce into individual dipping bowls. Garnish with sliced green onions. Serve immediately with your favorite dumplings.
