Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp fresh basil, finely minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp lemon zest
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 14 oz extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 1 tbsp avocado oil
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Slice the pressed extra-firm tofu into 1-inch cubes and pat dry with a lint-free towel to ensure a proper sear.
- Whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, maple syrup, minced basil, garlic, lemon zest, salt, and black pepper in a medium mixing bowl until integrated.
- Gently toss the tofu cubes in the marinade until evenly coated. Let the tofu marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature (or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator).
- Heat avocado oil in a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Add tofu cubes in a single layer, leaving space between them. Sear for 3–4 minutes per side without moving them until golden brown.
- Toss in a few whole basil leaves during the final 30 seconds of cooking for fragrance, then remove from heat.
