Ingredients:

  • 4 ears fresh corn on the cob, husks and silk removed
  • 4 quarts water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional: Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Shuck the corn completely and remove as much silk as possible. Trim the ends of the corn to remove any blemishes.
  2. Fill a large pot with water. Add sugar and salt. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Gently lower the corn into the boiling water. Ensure the corn is completely submerged.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium, cover the pot, and simmer for 8-12 minutes, depending on the size and freshness of the corn. Test for doneness.
  5. Use tongs to remove the corn from the pot. Serve immediately with melted butter, salt, and pepper, if desired.
