Ingredients:
- 5 fluid ounces Aged Whiskey (Bourbon or Scotch)
- 2 heaped tablespoons High-Quality Honey
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice
- 6 fluid ounces Filtered Hot Water (approximately 175°F/80°C)
- 1 small Cinnamon Stick (or 2-3 whole cloves)
- 1 Lemon Wheel or Studded Lemon Zest (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Heat the filtered water in a kettle or saucepan to approximately 175°F (80°C). Do not allow it to reach a rolling boil, as overly hot water will scald the honey and flatten the whiskey’s flavor profile.
- Optional Tip: Preheat your serving mug by pouring a small amount of the hot water inside, swirling for 30 seconds, and then discarding the water. This ensures your toddy stays warm longer.
- Combine the honey, fresh lemon juice, and whiskey into the preheated mug.
- Pour about 2 ounces (60 ml) of the heated water over the contents. Stir thoroughly until the honey is completely dissolved and the mixture is uniform.
- Add the remaining 4 ounces (120 ml) of hot water. Give it one final, gentle stir.
- Garnish by adding the cinnamon stick or cloves. If using a lemon wheel, run the rim of the glass with the lemon zest before dropping the wheel in.
- Allow the Hot Toddy to rest for 30 seconds for the flavors to meld and the spices to begin releasing their aroma. Serve immediately.
