Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend is recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns (brioche or sesame)
  • 4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)
  • ¼ cup (60g) mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Tomato slices (optional)
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Onion slices (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and mix well. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces each). Gently form each portion into a loose ball.
  3. Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add a little oil if needed.
  4. Place the meatballs on the hot skillet. Using a spatula, press down to smash each patty flat (about ½ inch thick). Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the edges are crispy and browned. Flip the burgers, add a slice of cheese, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  6. While the burgers are cooking, toast the hamburger buns in a separate skillet or use the oven until golden brown.
  7. Spread the tasty sauce on the bottom bun, top with the smashed burger, and add any additional toppings you desire. Cap with the top bun.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy while hot!
