Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks or 226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream or whole milk
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- In a stand mixer (or with an electric hand mixer), beat the softened butter on medium speed until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud. Scrape down the sides of the bowl after each addition.
- Add the heavy cream (or milk), vanilla extract, and salt. Beat on medium speed until combined and smooth.
- If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached. If the frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Beat on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes, until the frosting is light and airy.
- For firmer frosting, chill for 15 minutes before using (optional).
