Ingredients:
- 6-8 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced (approx. 1.3 kg)
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) ground cloves
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) water
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (90g) rolled oats (not instant)
- 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt
- 1/2 cup (113g) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Toss to coat evenly.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth.
- Pour the cornstarch slurry over the apple mixture and toss to combine.
- Pour the apple mixture into the slow cooker, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or on high for 1.5-2 hours, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
