Ingredients:

  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes, diced (about 500g)
  • 2-3 fresh chile serrano peppers, seeds removed and finely chopped (to taste; about 30-45g)
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped (about 100g)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (about 15g)
  • Juice of 2 limes (about 60ml)
  • Salt, to taste (start with 1/2 teaspoon)
  • Optional: 1 garlic clove, minced (for added flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dice the tomatoes.
  2. Remove the stems and seeds from the chile serrano peppers, then finely chop.
  3. Finely chop the red onion and cilantro.
  4. Mince the garlic, if using.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped serrano peppers, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and minced garlic (if using).
  6. Stir until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more salt or lime juice if necessary.
  7. Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy immediately, or chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to meld the flavors.
