Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk, or more as needed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk, or more as needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Beat softened butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to prevent a sugary dust cloud.
  3. Add milk, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  4. Add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached. (Should be thick enough to hold its shape but spreadable.)
  5. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
  6. Add more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached. (Should be thin enough to drizzle but thick enough to coat.)
  7. Add food coloring if desired.
