Ingredients:

  • 5 lbs apples
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into 1-inch chunks.
  2. Place apple chunks and lemon juice in a blender or directly in the crock pot and pulse with an immersion blender until broken down into a coarse puree.
  3. Stir in the ground cinnamon, ground allspice, ground cloves, and salt until evenly distributed.
  4. Set the crock pot to LOW. Place the lid on the pot, leaving it slightly ajar (propped open with a folded paper towel or wooden spoon) to allow steam to escape.
  5. Cook for 11 hours, stirring every 3–4 hours to prevent the edges from sticking.
  6. Once the mixture reaches a dark mahogany color and thick consistency, use an immersion blender one last time to ensure a silky finish.
  7. Allow the apple butter to cool to room temperature before transferring to glass mason jars.
