Ingredients:
- 2 oz (60 ml) Bourbon (higher proof preferred)
- 1 sugar cube (or 1 tsp/5 ml granulated sugar and a dash of simple syrup)
- 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
- Orange peel, for garnish
- Luxardo cherry (optional), for garnish
- Ice (large format preferred)
- Splash of soda water or water (optional)
Instructions:
- Place the sugar cube (or sugar and simple syrup) in the Old Fashioned glass. Add the Angostura bitters and a tiny splash of water (or soda water). Muddle gently until the sugar is mostly dissolved. Avoid over-muddling.
- Add half of the bourbon to the glass. Add one large ice cube (or a couple of smaller ones). Stir gently for 10-15 seconds to chill and begin to dilute. Add the remaining Bourbon.
- Continue to stir gently for another 10-15 seconds, allowing the drink to chill and the flavors to meld.
- Express the oils from the orange peel over the glass by twisting it over the drink. Rub the rim of the glass with the peel and then drop it into the drink. Add a Luxardo cherry (if using).
- Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly.
