Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks or 226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 4 cups (480g) confectioners' sugar, sifted
- 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) milk or heavy cream
- 1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
- With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time. Mix until combined after each addition.
- Add 2 tablespoons of milk (or cream) and the vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until just combined.
- Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat for 2-3 minutes, or until the buttercream frosting is light and fluffy. Add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed.
- If the frosting is too thick, add more milk, 1/2 tablespoon at a time. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Taste the buttercream frosting and add a pinch of salt if desired.
