Ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 8 thick slices of bread (approx. 1 lb)

Instructions:

  1. In a shallow wide bowl or pie dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar, and salt vigorously until the mixture is completely smooth.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the custard, soaking for 5–10 seconds per side for a quick version, or 30 seconds per side for a restaurant-style interior.
  3. Melt 1 tbsp of butter over medium-high heat in a non-stick skillet or griddle until it begins to foam.
  4. Place bread slices in the pan, leaving space between them, and fry for 3–4 minutes per side until a deep mahogany-colored crust forms.
