Ingredients:
- 375g (1 1/2 cups) All-purpose flour (plain flour)
- 7g (2 1/2 teaspoons) Active dry yeast
- 1 tsp (5ml) Granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) Salt
- 125g (1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp) Plain yogurt
- 2 Tbsp (30ml) Vegetable oil
- 150ml (2/3 cup) Warm water
- Vegetable oil for brushing
- Melted Butter for brushing (optional)
- Chopped fresh coriander for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Add the yogurt, oil, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Heat a dry cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Brush one side of the naan with vegetable oil.
- Place the oiled side down in the hot pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until puffy and slightly charred.
- Flip the naan and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Brush the cooked naan with melted butter (if desired) and sprinkle with chopped coriander. Serve immediately. Now you can enjoy your own delicious naan recipe
