Ingredients:

  • 375g (1 1/2 cups) All-purpose flour (plain flour)
  • 7g (2 1/2 teaspoons) Active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) Salt
  • 125g (1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp) Plain yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp (30ml) Vegetable oil
  • 150ml (2/3 cup) Warm water
  • Vegetable oil for brushing
  • Melted Butter for brushing (optional)
  • Chopped fresh coriander for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Add the yogurt, oil, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Heat a dry cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Brush one side of the naan with vegetable oil.
  9. Place the oiled side down in the hot pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until puffy and slightly charred.
  10. Flip the naan and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Brush the cooked naan with melted butter (if desired) and sprinkle with chopped coriander. Serve immediately. Now you can enjoy your own delicious naan recipe
