Ingredients:

  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1/3 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 whole vanilla bean, split lengthwise

Instructions:

  1. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise with a knife and scrape the seeds out. Note: Use the back of the knife to get every seed
  2. Combine the half and half, sugar, and the scraped seeds (and the pod) in the saucepan.
  3. Turn the heat to medium low.
  4. Whisk gently as the mixture warms.
  5. Heat for 5 mins until the liquid begins to steam and sugar crystals disappear.
  6. Remove the vanilla bean pod from the saucepan.
  7. Pour the liquid into a 16 oz glass mason jar.
  8. Let it cool to room temperature on the counter.
  9. Seal the jar and transfer to the refrigerator.
